Contra & Square Dance - Janet Shepherd w/ Laura Light & Mick Kinney
Janet Shepherd from Atlanta is one of the most popular callers in the southeast, Her enthusiasm is contagious and her clear teaching makes dancing a pleasure for beginners and experienced dancers alike.
Laura Light has been fiddling for dances, festivals and celebrations for thirty years. A true American hybrid, she was born in the heartlands, spent the seventies in folk and bluegrass clubs in the San Francisco Bay area, homesteaded, played hoedowns and raised babies in southeastern Ohio, and currently hits the national contra dance circuit and old time festivals of the southeast.
Mick is a musician of many talents. He has played stride piano at Manhattan's Swing 46 with veteran tap dancer, Harold Cromer (of Stump and Stumpy); fiddle with Creole jazzman, Al Broussard, in New Orleans French Quarter; and lap steel at Louisiana's Rendez-vous des Cajuns. He also has performed at McCabe's in Los Angeles, the Bluebird in Nashville, and on NPR's Mountain Stage. A native of Wisconsin, Mick has made his home in Atlanta since 1977.
Beginners, singles and couples welcome.
Beginners should come promptly at 8 pm, since we start with easier dances and more teaching.
