Jimi Benedict’s Cardboard Kingdom- Artist in Residency 3rd Quarter
Step into a world where ordinary materials become unexpectedly alive in Jimi Benedict’s Cardboard Kingdom. Working primarily with corrugated cardboard, paper, glue, and paint, Benedict transforms familiar packaging materials into expressive animal sculptures filled with pattern, personality, movement, and humor. Through cutting, layering, shaping, and surface treatment, he reveals the surprising strength and creative possibilities hidden within a material most often treated as disposable.
An Atlanta-area artist with a background in commercial design, illustration, art direction, and occupational therapy, Benedict brings both playful imagination and a keen understanding of construction to his work. His sculptures occupy a lively space between folk art, contemporary design, and handcrafted storytelling, inviting visitors to look twice—and perhaps reconsider what makes a material worthy of becoming art. Jimi’s residency will run from June 6 through August 30
