Amicalola Creek

Lower Section
Highway 53 to Kelly Bridge/Etowah River

Gauge is located under the Ga 53 bridge on river left
Dawson Forest Wildlife Management controls this river

Put in: Kelly Bridge. To get to the Take Out go West on GA 53 1 mile to a Left on Cowart Road. At the Stop Sign take a Left onto Kelly Bridge and go approximately 3.4 miles to the Take Out.

Take Out Note: The Etowah River Take Out is personally owned. The Land Owner ask for $2.00 per person on the Honor System, (prices are subject to change, please note posted prices). Envelopes are provided. Please Close Gate after Entering or Leaving.

Upper Section
Goshen Church Road to Highway 53
Class 2-3    9.5 Miles
Average Gradient 20 fpm    Maximum Gradient 25 fpm

Caution: At levels above 1.4 feet, this section of the river contains a large amount of wood. Thanks to Georgia Canoe Association and several local paddlers, there are clear lines. Extreme caution should be taken when paddling this section of the river.

Goshen Church Road-Afton Road Put in Directions: From GA 53 Bridge go East towards Dawsonville. Turn Left at the junction of GA 53 and GA 136. Travel along GA 183 for approximately 10 miles and make a Left on Ashton Road. Follow Ashton Road around a mile and put in at the bridge.

Etowah River

Section 3
US 19 to Highway 136
Class 2-4    13.3 Miles

This River can be separated into two sections. The upper section is a 5.9 mile run. The upper part of this river would be considered a Class 1-2. The lower section is a 7.4 mile run, disappearing into an abandoned mining tunnel.

Put in Directions: To the Upper Section take Highway 52 West from Dahlonega 6 miles to the bridge. To the Lower Section, follow Highway 9 from Dahlonega for 4 miles.

Take Out Directions: Follow Highway 9 for 1.5 miles to Old Highway 9 East. Turn Left and follow Old 9 East 4 miles to Auraria. Turn Right on Castleberry Bridge Road and go 1 mile to the bridge.
